Subject: [Leica] condolences

Wow, I just read the LUG today and there was a lot of bad news.

First, Roland, my sympathies and condolences. My best wishes for this
hard time. I wish I knew something better to say in the face of such a
devastating loss.

...and my sympathies to the DiMarco family. Sal had stopped by a few
weeks ago and I was lucky to have one last chat with him.

One nice thing about Sal was we were able to disagree passionately about
anything photographic and yet remain on a good rapport despite not
giving in.

In my experience this is a rare quality and must have contributed to his
ability to lead some 30 photographers in his prior job.

I will fondly remember the LUG meeting we had at Bruno's coffeeshop
where at the end I sarcastically said to him "Sal, at this meeting, all
we did was listen to your war stories and bs for an hour." and he said
back just as quick, "yes, and your point is...?"

May Sal's stories & spirit live on...

bests,
Rich

PS- if someone is organizing a scholarship in his name at his alma matta
I'd be in too.
