B. D., it was the mechanics of writing - penmanship and typing - that
stopped me, not the thought process. Similarly the mechanics of metering,
setting shutter speed, aperture and focus blocked many people, both creative
and mediocre, from photography. There are those of us who bemoan the lack
of manual skills in younger photographers, and those who've embraced the
enabling potential of the automated technologies. I prefer to use the
manual photographic skills and at the same time I recognize the value of the
automated features for those whose creativity would be stifled without the
technology - my stepdaughter for example.

We are seeing more mediocre writing - and if you look in the right places
you'll see more well-crafted writing. Technology has enabled more of both.
The same is true of photography.
