Jeffery,
The local high street lab that does my T400CN also gives me 6x4's and
although results vary,  many are very close to true b&w on colour paper. If
T400CN goes I may persevere with Portra or even go back to processing my
own. I have given up on Tri X/ D76 so would consider Delta and the wonder
developer that Mark Rabiner endorses so enthusiastically. The one that
doesn't deteriorate in the bottle, Xtol I think. In the meantime I will
stock up on T400CN. Thanks for the tip unofficial though it was.
