I would certainly agree on this one Frank ! It is a tough crowd to please -
allmost like if Zeiss does not come up with something better than Leica at
half the price and then while they are at it trows in a digital M - then
Zeiss is failing.

Pre production prototypes are hard to get working and I feel sorry for Zeiss
that the cameras on Photokina did not work.

Some 20 years ago an inventor in Denmark had put his livesavings into a
small hybrid electric car that was so much a head of the competion. He and
his assistant had been working non stop and no sleep the last 48 hours
before the Grand presentation at the Forum in Copenhagen to get the last
pieces together. When the car was revieled, the assistant had fallen asleep
inside the car under the cloth covering it. Still at sleep he was so
shocked by al the flaslights from the press photographers that he "floored"
the gas pedal - drove for 25 meters and crashed the car totally into the
side of the arena.
The poor inventor whent broke.

of the zeiss topic: I do not totally agree with those who state that film
vs. digital is the same as vinyl records vs. compact disks for music. With
the old vinyl records you had dust problems - you had scratching noise and
wear from the stylus. Film is a hard copy of you photo - not depending on
any media or mac/pc platform etc. Once the film is scanned you can store the
film in one place and the back media of the scan in another place. It is not
tha I do not see some great opportunities with a digital M but how can you
convince Leica to drop all the an?ying extra functions and just make it a
rangefinder tha records the image digitally and not som monstrer with
flipping screens, automated programms and edditing feautures you are not
going to use anyway as the sille lcd screen never will be good eneugh to
judge anything on.
