Yes, if sensor components are more performance driven (CPUs, RAM, 
chipsets) vs.
standards/interoperability driven (serial, USB), then the interfaces 
themselves would
change rapidly over time.  There might be choices at any given point in 
time, but long
term backward/forward compatibility would not be likely.
