You're probably right that it's a matter of getting used to the camera.

But those dials are awfully thin... I wish they would make them 
thicker....
I have fairly large hands and in order to spin the front and back dial 
comfortably
the camera grip would have to be a good inch thicker. Right now I have 
to shift my
grip from front to back and vice versa depending on what dial I need to 
get at. Kind
of hard to do while keeping your index finger on the shutter button. I 
also wish the two switches for changing the exposure pattern and 
exposure compensation were on the left side. Right now I have to bend 
my fingers backwards over the top of the camera to hit them and spin 
the dial at the same time.

But I'll say this much. The D70 is an awful lot of camera for the price 
and the
image quality is top notch.
