[Leica] 1Ds Mk II at ISO 3200

In regard to shooting in low light - Folks who primarily shoot in
adequate daylight can delete this now :-) :

Something to consider for those who would dismiss various DSLRs because
their viewfinders are not up to the standard set by the R8/9 - or, for
that matter, the Nikon F5 and Canon EOS1v - and those who tell us that
non-Leica lens quality won't give them the gorgeous image quality their
Leica lenses provide...At this point in the development of digital,
digital has clearly surpassed film in terms of its ability to capture
excellent quality images in very - nay, extremely - low light. The 1DsII
produces an image at 1600 iso equal in quality to a fine grain 400 iso
film; and it produces an image at 3200 that is exponentially better than
any film at that speed. So IF you are a low light shooter, the question
is:
Would you - a. rather see the image through a brilliant viewfinder, and
end up with a crappy image because film is simply not up to capturing
enough detail in the low light ? - or would you - b. rather compromise
on the image seen through the viewfinder and end up with a high-quality
image?

If you answer a., I'd suggest your more into the equipment than you are
photography - If you answer b., my guess is that what matters to you is
the image.

I think the 20D and 1Dsii use very much the same technology in terms of
chip fabrication and post-processing. I would expect the 3200 and 1600
ISO performance to be similiar. The 1Ds has some very nice features. I
like being able to use it in spot-meter mode and record several
exposures to help find the best exposure, a feature I'm beginning to
explore.
