ted,

thanks very much for the comments.

first, a correction: it's eleanor friedBERGER, not friedman. mea
culpa.

second, after ted's comments, i viewed the pic on my powerbook, which
has a much better screen than my iMac, and saw how bad it looked. i
have to stop photoshopping on the iMac!

anyhow, i played around with the contrast and levels as per your
advice, ted, and i think it's much better.

it was indeed an exposure nightmare at that show. heavy backlighting.
the fiery furnaces are an interesting band, composed of ms. friedberger
and her brother matt. (real brother and sister, unlike the white
stripes) they got into a fight before the show--we could see them
through the backstage door, and sniped at each other throughout the
show. eleanor stood stock-still the *whole* time, so she never got
where her face was in the light. i shot a whole roll, and she's in the
same spot throughout the whole show. there are other photos of them
around the net that show much more movement and much better lighting.
i shot the whole thing on the 50mm summicron at f/2 and 1/30sec on
T400CN. that was an educated guess exposure, honestly.
