Subject: [Leica] 75mm F/2 M lens?

Frankly, the last thing I'd associate the 75 Summilux with is the gd
"Leica glo." While it's been around a long time, it is a modern lens,
sharp as the proverbial tack, and wonderfully contrasty. I found it to
be the virtual identical twin of the Nikon 85 1.4 - both lenses are real
stunners. And the 75 is the last lens in the world I would describe as
having a Noctilux-like image look. Shallow depth of field? Yes, close at
1.4. But that, to my eye, is the beginning and end of the similarity.

As to cost comparison - anyone who goes out today and buys a new 75 1.4
- assuming he or she can find a used one- is out of his or her mind.
$3000? Nuts. Pick one up used and save maybe $1K over the new Summicron
AND get an extra stop along with the $1K saving.

The APO Summicron 75/2.0 ASPH is likely to cost US$2,500 whereas the
Summilux 75/1.4 is priced at US$3,000 at present.

If the 75/2.0 is similar to the 50/1.4 ASPH and APO 90/2.0 ASPH, it will
have a very different 'finger print' than that of the 75/1.4. I have
always found the latter closer to the Noctilux in terms of image
characteristics.

In short, I expect the new 75/2.0 to be a smaller, lighter, less
expensive lens compared to the Summilux 75/1.4, but will likely to offer
sharper images with a more modern look, with less of that wonderful
'Leica glow' that is often associated with the pre-ASPH 50/1.4, Noctilux
and 75/1.4.
