We never released firmware until it passed a 3 week battery of quality 
tests. They were
tough tests, sometimes finding bugs, they got fixed then the firmware went 
back into the
test group for another round.

Marketing could weep and gnash their teeth but had on power to circumvent 
the  procedure.
ISO 9000 is all about procedures.
