Slush boxes, gear changing, clutches, variable diameter pulleys, etc all 
belong in the past. The Prius has none of these. An internal combustion 
engine, 2 electric motor/generators all solidly linked together with a 
differential gear is all you need to go fast or slow, forwards or 
backwards with the engine running or not running.
