I'm looking forward to an answer on this, too, just out of curiosity. I 
had a Summitar recoated, due to mold, sometime in the early '70s, for 
$60. I think it was done by Leitz, though I couldn't swear to that. 
Even then the common wisdom was that recoating wasn't worth it, but 
Southwest Camera had another Summitar in the used case--for $60--so I 
decided to get mine fixed, rather than take a chance of getting someone 
else's lemon. I still use that lens, so I think the cost is pretty well 
amortized.
