A rule of thumb that I've followed is that, if it looks good on the
outside, it is probably not too bad on the inside (and vice versa). Wear
and tear can be fixed, but abuse can be a bit more dicey.

Well--I can understand those numbers, but what else (hidden defects/
malfunctions) could be wrong and what would be the max. damage (cost)?
