Use them.

Do the "flashlight test" only if you want to see what is inside the lens
(i.e. shine a flashlight through the lens and see how clear they are).
You will be surprised what you find - haze, etc. But you will also be
surprised how little effect it has on images, unless the defects are
really major.

CLA the lens only if the iris mechanism is sluggish, or if the focus is
rough.

Vick Ko

Subject: [Leica] older lens CLA question

Sirs/ Madams:

I have acquired a number of old Canon RF, Nikon Non-AI, and AI-S lenses
(all in excellent shape) in the last year. Should I get them CLA'd now
before I use them as a precautionary matter for pic quality, etc or
would it be a waste of $$$$? I can get it done for about $40 per each
here in Korea.

Maybe I'll use them for the next 20 yrs. before I "check out"
permanently, unless I can figure out a way to take them w/ me.

Thanks,

Bill
