If it hasn't already been said, "The best M body (bodies) is that which you
you have with you."

Seems the strengths/weaknesses vs. other camera systems are much
greater than those between different models (excepting the metered vs.
non-metered bodies).

Why I snagged 2 M6TTL's. I was buying used. Fairly recent bodies and used
prices looked pretty good. Identical cost for each body. They both work the
same (meter, big shutter dial, TTL flash).

I find the .58 VF delightful and augment it with the CV brightline 28mm
finder. The .72 got DAG's VF overhaul during a CLA. I use the 1.25x mag
on the .72 mostly these days shooting just 50 and 90mm with that body.
I do use the TTL flash feature using an 2F24 from time to time.

Again, I'm sure there are slight differences between models and I might
just well like them the same or even better - 2mm in height here,
smoother wind
there, AE on the M7, a self-timer, blah blah.

But I think lots more about shooting these M's vs. my FM3a SLR film kit
(with the 28/2.8 AIS, 45/2.8 AI-P and 105/2.5 AIS lenses I like so much)
vs. my D70 DSLR kit (and all of its totally different strengths and
weaknesses).
Or the M's vs. just sticking my Rollei AFM35 in my pocket loaded up with
some Reala or HP5+. Takes damned good pictures too.

I also think more about my current lens lineup, and what might better fit
my style of shooting and personal-optimal shooting ergonomics.

So, whatever M body in one's bag is just about as good a candidate for
"best"
as most any other IMHO.
