Subject: [Leica] Following in Geebee's footsteps - numbers 1 and 2

I take your point about the motorways. I stopped at a motorway service
centre and it was like walking into an airport duty free shop. I was
stood there with my sandwich and canned drink while the person in front
of me bought 3 trillion cigarettes :-)

I was talking about the stations on the motorways, where "last" and
"first" are clearly defined terms, unless you want to make an
unauthorised U-turn across the median ;-)

Having lived in Belgium for 5 years, I have long been aware of the joys
of Luxembourg: cheap petrol and cigarettes. Plus the people are nice and
have few hangups about which language they speak--most communicate
easily in Dutch, French or German (of which their own language,
Letzebuergisch, is a dialect).

For Belgians with savings it has long been a national sport to stash
their money in Luxembourg--the two countries shared currency long before
the Euro came along, so there was no exchange rate risk, and Luxembourg
was at least as discrete as Switzerland when it came to communicating
with nosy third parties such as foreign tax authorities. Unfortunately,
I was not in that lucky category of savers, since I acquired the Leica
habit during my time in Belgium :-)
