I would tell my wife "not to worry dear" and immediately begin pricing
replacement (guilt assuaging) equipment.

I would go out to my garage and find a small tack hammer. Placing my
left (focusing) thumb on the workbench. I'd give it several good whacks

Anytime in the future when I considered letting "my beautiful wife"
carry my Leicas I'd simply give thumb a glance.

"Hello /Thumb, /can we really afford any new stuff?"
