The animal that Europeans call an Elk we in America call a Moose, that which 
we call an Elk is a close relative to the European Red Deer/Stag. The 
American Elk would more correctly be called by its 
American Indian name the Wapiti.  BTW the American pronghorne antelope is 
not really an antelope either.
