As for the RAW software, Canon's own will give better results if 
shooting RAW.  CS2 is fine for the quick stuff but when you find an 
image you really want to work on, starting with the Canon's Digital 
Photo Professional  software will give a better image to start with 
in Photoshop.

  If you are upgrading just to get the Canon RAW support you could 
probably save some money with using the Canon software and your 
existing photoshop.  I upgraded to CS2 from PS7 and found CS2 needed 
quite a bit more processing horsepower compared to Photoshop 7.  In 
addition, for the DMR files, the FlexColor software seems to do a 
much better job.   The same can be said about the Canon software 
doing a better job on my 1D MkII files compared to the Adobe CS2.  In 
the Canon RAWs there still seems to be some proprietary information 
that only Canon programs can use, such as the custom white balances 
and tone curves the images were shot with.
