Sync voltage is easy to check. Simply turn the flash on and, about a  
minute after the ready light comes on, hook a digital voltmeter  
across the hotshoe contacts. If it is around 10v you are probably OK  
(check what the manufacturer specifies). If you are significantly  
above 10v then get a safesync.
