Subject: [Leica] Leica R Lenses on Modified Canon 5D

There has been recent discussion about the use of Leica R lenses (with
adapter) on the new full frame Canon 5D. Some have tried it and report
that some of the Leica lenses will not clear the mirror; this seems
particularly true of the shorter (wide angle) Leica lenses.

Frank Dernie, for example, posted with regard to the 19mm Elmarit: "I
have seen a web site explaining
how much needs machining off the rear element surround
to clear but can't bring myself to do it."

Well, it appears that someone out there has brought himself to machining
off a portion of the 5D's mirror (!) to allow the Leica lenses to be
used. The thread is on the Fred Miranda forum for Canon gear:

I don't know that I could bring myself to do this to a $3300 + shipping
5D body, but there you have it if you are so inclined.
