AOL maintains a phalanx of morons to protect its real tech support people.
If you can convince one of them that you have a genuine problem, they'll
refer you to a non-moron who can actually help you. This human ablative
shield is quite variable; sometimes you get a person who will actually
listen to your complaint and sometimes you don't.

I have not yet managed to get through this phalanx of low-paid guardians to
talk to a real tech-support person. The tech-support people are good at
their job and are not idiots; presumably they wouldn't be willing to work
for AOL unless they had those human shields to protect them.
