__30 Years of the Leica Gallery: Anniversary year 2006 again sees
interesting exhibition program

The Leica Gallery is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the year 2006. To
commemorate this occasion, the exhibition program is again spanning the
whole
range of 35mm photography from fine-art to documentary with a total of
twelve
international photo exhibitions, one for every month of the year. The
opening of the Leica Gallery in the year 1976 marked the beginning of Leica
culture
projects. This was followed in 1979 by the first Leica Oskar Barnack
competition and numerous other activities to do with photographic culture.
The Leica
gallery has been accommodated in the entrance hall of Leica Camera AG's
factory in Oskar-Barnack-Strasse since 1988 and gives world-famous as well
as
young aspiring Leica photographers the chance to present outstanding
achievements in an exhibition.

__Closing date for Leica photo competitions: 31st January 2006

Leica Camera AG, Solms, will be holding its international photo
competitions
for professional photographers again this year. The closing date for both
the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the Leica European Publishers Award for
Photography is 31st January 2006. The entry forms for both competitions can
be
downloaded as a pdf file at www.leica-camera.com. The Leica Oskar Barnack
Award
has been sponsored as part of Leica Cultural Projects since 1979, the year
of
the 100th anniversary of Oskar Barnack?s birthday. The prize is awarded in
cooperation with the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in
Arles,
France. The international jury gives the award to the photographer whose
sure
powers of observation most vividly express man's relationship to his
environment in a photo series consisting of up to 12 pictures. Previously
known under
the name ?European Publishers Award for Photography 2005?, the competition
has been one of the culture projects of Leica Camera AG ever since !
it was initiated in 1994. This year, 'Leica' is being added to the name for
the first time to show the involvement of the Solms company in one of the
most important photo book awards in Europe. To be eligible for entry, photo
projects must be completed, unpublished and in the form of a book. The
winner's
project will be published by the participating publishers in their
particular
country and language.
