Hi Doug,
The 4990 is perfect for MF and bigger.
For 35mm my humble minolta dual 3 does a better job where resolution and 
sharpness are concerned.
The digital ice on the 4990 however is awesome. if I had to buy a new 
35mm scanner i certainly would spent the extra money for digital ice.
