Ted,
where do you think the Brit expression " to spend a penny" comes from ? 
the old pub-cons in the UK used to take a penny coin, now it's usually 5 
or 10 new pence (super-loos, which clean themselves automatically). 
German public loos don't have coin slots, but they do have Loo-ladies 
waiting for a tip at the entrance.
Cross one of these ladies at your peril.
