<<Careful about any used Nikonos. They have been around a while and some
have been poorly kept- for example used repeatedly in salt water and
not properly rinsed (leading to salt build up at the joints and
sometimes corrosion), or NI/II/NIII which forced when opening for film
change (which can result in cracks in the top casing which is plastic,
not metal).>.

A careful inspection is good advice for buying any used camera. Good used
Nikonos cameras are not too hard to find. Open the camera and check for salt
water intrusion into the innards. There should be no rust or corrosion and
the seals should be intact without signs of sand cuts. The mechanical guts
are very rugged and most Nikonos cameras have had much less use than their
age would indicate. The lens should show no signs of water intrusion and
should focus smoothly. No electrics is an asset if the camera is used in a
marine environment..

Incidentally the Nikonos is one of the few cameras that can be operated wi
th ski gloves. It doesn't mind a few falls in the show either. A Nikonos on
a strap comes in handy as a mace in crowd control.

?<< How about a Leica related question?? I just purchased some ringdings at
the local...ringding store.? One of the lens hood is marked series VI and
does not fit my 50mm summilux lens.? The other lenshood is of the Ricoh
brand and is also marked series VI, however it fits perfectly on said lens!?
How come?? Any lugger has a trick for using cheap lens hoods on a 50mm
summilux lens?>>

Calumet used to sell step up adapters for fitting Series V, VI, and VII lens
attachments to metric sized lenses. Probably Porters still carries them. If
not, they can probably be found in the junk box of an old photo store.
