Bill,
This was Leica's first attempt at a 35mm lens.  It is adequate at best,
soft, flare prone, curvature of field, astigmatism, coma and probably not
coated unless it was one coated during the war for official use.  If you are
looking for a good inexpensive lens then the Cosina offerings are quite
good, not to mention the 35 F3.5 Summaron or the later 35 F2.8 Summaron.
Any of the Summicrons will be quite good and the Russian 35 F2.8 Biogons can
be very good indeed although quality can be variable.

On the other hand, if you are trying to find a lens with a "romantic" look
where everything is just a little bit rounded and bright spots blend into
the main image then the 35 Elmar could be just what you want.
