All I meant is that it doesn't matter a whole lot (for a Leica user)
if the metering can't be done in the camera (= D100 + AiS or Ai
lenses). You just use your old lenses and meter with an external
meter. The camera can be set on manual and you move the reading over
the old fashioned way.

I use all Nikkor lenses on the D100. Only the chipped ones can use the
matrix evaluation meter in the camera. The others can meter using a
stopped down method or just using an incident light meter and putting
the camera on manual.
