Whenever I have hired an assistant, I have had us both sign a half-page 
contract that says that they are not an employee, and that I am paying them 
money for a specific task, and that I will not withhold any money for taxes. 
I had the contract drawn up by an attorney almost 30 years ago, and I've 
been using it ever since. My guess is that in 2006 an attorney would blanch 
at how short it is, and recommend that I switch to some 12-page special 
written in language that I do not understand.
