While I agree with Doug's POV on the plumes just behind the planes -  
I would also like to maintain the overall contrast in the back ground  
clouds, moon, etc. So careful contrast control would be in order. I'd  
probably do a couple duplicate layers and some masking to achieve the  
balance that I think Doug may be envisioning.
