Have you tried slip on caps? They handle and fit very well. CV has some: 
http://tinyurl.com/zk7g6 There should be similar ones for the Leica lenses 
with 39mm filter thread, from Leica and 3rd parties. I believe they have 
42mm diametre.

Personally I use mostly hoods, no caps. Either I loose them or they're on 
the lens in the wrong moment. The exception is for the CV 28 Color Skopar as 
I often put it together with a M6 in a tight jacket pocket. The cap never 
dropped until now.
