That might be true (well, it certainly is) Larry, but it is only
hypothetically better.

An Elmar that is focused spot on will probably out perform the Rollei
35's Sonnar that has been focused by approximation.

Getting the focus right has a large effect on the performance of a
lens. Depth of field is no replacement for correct focus.
