I have not been to India, so I am on thin ground here, but my understanding is that the cuisine as served in the UK is not the same as there but not worse or better, just different. I have a wonderful little cookbook called "The Curry Secret" which I bought in London a few years ago; it is written by a chef at an Indian restaurant in London, and he is very open about the fact that the recipes are intended to replicate what you get in UK restaurants, not in India. Be that as it may, the food is delicious, and I have served it to people who have been to or lived in India, and they found it very good too.
