Subject: [Leica] Epson R-D1 vs. M8?

In fairness to Dave, I don't think his having an M8 on order has
anything to do with speculation. If I'm not mistaken he was planning to
order two M8s (or Mates as I like to refer to them) for actual use
before he had hands on at Photokina. After handling the camera he
expressed some valid reservations. I appreciate his candid remarks,
although I may be recalling comments he made on his blog, as well as
recent posts.

Everyone who has laid hands on with the M8 seems to love it. Or at least
those are the only people who have commented. Dave is one of the few,
and maybe the only, who has expressed reservations. Now he's being
lambasted.

Why does he need substantiation beyond the fact that he wasn't
overwhelmed by the camera? I'll bet 95% of the comments on the LUG are
unsubstantiated opinion. If we put a BS filter on the LUG there'd be one
post a day, and it will probably come from a first time poster.

The M8 is still very new. Personally, I'm leery of looking through Rose
colored filters. Rose colored filters can eventually fade and become
plain old UV filters, unless the pigment is light fast, in which case
everyone will buy an M8 and Leica will be become larger than all other
camera companies combined, and through economies of scale production
costs will drop and we'll all be able to afford two M8s....except for
the small minority which will still be waiting for the release of the
M9.

Dave, It is not forbidden to make negative comments, but it is expected
that the comments would have some substantiation. Not just a bunch of
BS which is just about all you put forward. And then you make the
statement that even though it is a total disappointment, you ordered on
anyway, seems a bit odd that you would waste your money on a camera that
you totally hate. Oh, thats right you bought it on speculation that you
could make a killing on it by reselling it at an inflated price. That
explains everything. My opinion, Ted was right on in his reply to you.
