Jeff, yes it is not a rangefinder. I don't know if that could be done with a 
zooming finder.
I never had any problem using the single central focus area, locking the 
focus and recomposing. However, I know that others have
commented that it wasn't accurate.
I sold mine off to help pay for an M.

Except the G2 isn't a rangefinder, it's a point-n-pray.  Not useful.
Can't trust 'em.
