Subject: [Leica] Cameras I miss but don't miss...most

Hoppy,

I'm not sure crazy is the right word. It just seems interesting how
things have changed. I understand from personal experience why digital
photography has replaced film. OTOH, There are certain things about film
photography that digital photography can never replace. For instance,
the excitement and anticipation that goes along with shooting film. It
begins with loading the camera and it ends with seeing a print come to
life in a tray under a safelight. The gestation period of an image on
film is much longer than fostered through electrons. I'm sure many women
would prefer to be pregnant for a day and have quick and effortless
labor. But if that were the case would the baby still seem as precious?
A poor analogy perhaps, but I've heard photography called a labor of
love. Are there more great pictures today, or just more pictures? I
guess that's a question for the experts, which I'm certainly not.

Dave I do believe you may have started a thread ;-)
I picked up the Mamiya 645e off the Bay. The results are excellent, with
the obvious advantage of the bigger transparency. But now
it sits in the cupboard unused. It's just that M's are a full time
occupation. The rangefinder type medium formats seem to be the
only subset of 120 stuff here that has a mini following. Crazy isn't it?
Still at least we are using film in manual focus cameras with the M's,
we haven't really betrayed the cause.
Cheers
Hoppy
