Grumble. At our evening Christmas service, the music director decided that
we ought to endure a soprano singing a 13-minute Scarlatti cantata instead
of the congregation singing Christmas carols. Then when I got home to get a
headstart on tomorrow's cooking, I found that the beef tenderloin roast I
had bought at the butcher, which I was going to pre-cook tonight, has
spoiled, and at this hour there isn't a store within 200 miles that's open
and that would sell decent meat. So I get to be
creative when 18 people show up to be fed tomorrow.
But it's Christmas. I'm grateful for this whole community.
