And forced me to get my notebooks off the shelf in my office to check some details - I hadn't looked at them at all in several years. I have to say that what astounded me then, and astounds me now as I look back on it, as how it was possible to go some place I'd never been and about which I really knew very little, and by simply listening to a reasonably wide assortment of people, make some sense of a senseless situation - at least enough sense to write a couple "overview" pieces that actually still hold up.
