Douglas, you're right of course that most folks won't have the InDesign and
Acrobat Pro. In fact a page layout constructed with any
of the Microsoft Office applications can also be easily converted to a pdf
with the Acrobat program (not the free reader). Keep in
mind that pdfs are intended as cross platform print documents, rather than
web content. I really like them however they may not fit
with Brian's master plan.
However, I imagine that the book, as an on-line resource might consist of
quite a few different designs and approaches. We shall
have to see what Brian comes up with for us for the gallery.
Having said that, if Philippe's design and concept was acceptable and we
standardised on one template, I'd be happy to collate
people's content and then upload it to a central gallery. I have the
requisite software and I think that Philippe's idea is an
excellent one. It would also lend itself to printing out of individual
projects if people wanted to do so. If you make up a layout
using Powerpoint, send it to me off list and I'll send you back a PDF, if
you would like.

Cheers
Hoppy

It looks really good, but how many of us can actually use it?

Full PDF capability , at least for me, is too expensive for the amount
of work I need it for.

How about Powerpoint? - I'm sure it's a lot easier to use for most of
us - you can always store a slide in whatever format you like when it's
done.
Just to show that it works, here's a slide from a "bloomers" PPT for
one of my translation agencies, subsequently converted to jpeg format

http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/DMS/New-Old-Pictures/PPT2JPG.jpg.html

Needless to say, the "bloomer" perpetrator has now been changed it to
read : We can provide the services of over 50 expert translators at
short notice. (Which is still a rotten translation - It's not one of
mine ;-) )

Cheers
Douglas
