Hoppy, welcome to the IIIcUG!  I have a 1950 sharkskin and use it
frequently.  It's one of my all-time favorite cameras, and certainly one of
the most beautiful.  Find a vintage Elmar and you will be amazed. The
Russian Elmar (actually Tessar) copies are also impressive (and dirt
cheap).  If you feel the viewfinder is a little squinty you can get an
excellent brightline one from CV.  I can also recommend the 35mm f/2.5
Color-Skopar from CV.

As for film loading, I load mine without any template or trimming, but I've
been a user since 1960.  It's definitely quirky but you can acquire the
skill with practice.  Google can turn up some links with tips.
