I do have the TBE & a TBE2. I once had E-6 aspirations. I bought the second just because it had the 1510 tank, and a full set of bottles for the price of the tank alone new. I don't have rotary processing. Yes it would be nice. I recently got the little 1510 which holds but a single 35mm film and only uses 240ml for inversion.. The Jobo tanks I have are as new or nearly so. As I mentioned, I think just operator error when I put the lids on the tanks in my change bag. Never happened to me before. Sigh. I use a JOBO processor, so I put in a minimum of solution and do not invert in the traditional sense.. You are referring to the white clips that hold the reels to the core? They certainly are so useless, that I never use them, I do always fill up the tank with empty reels if needed to fit the capacity. However, the clips I am referring to would not have anything to do with the tanks opening up in error. If you are putting the lid on correctly, the "fingers" around the rim of the tank top grab around the top of the tank bottom to give a pretty good seal, and certainly good enough to not open up during processing ( rotary, anyway). On my tanks, the amount of effort I use to put the tanks top on or off correctly is quite high, and I doubt they would fall off unless I dropped the tank. In suspension, as you describe the tempering unit ( not the TBE-2?), the lid would be partially under tension, and it is possible that with a big load of fluid, something got loose. Or It may be that you have old, well used tanks that are just plain weak.....It would account for occasional ( or more often) failures. Certainly the JOBO 1500 or 2500 series of tanks is not "perfect" for inversion processing. ( too much fluid, too big a tank in height as well. And at least 4 or five asstd Patersons! I processed a dozen or so films in the 1520 without problems and quite like the reel loading design and the tank economy. What happened was (on both separate occasions) that the clip on lock rings unseated slightly, allowing the lid to rise slightly and allow light into the tank. I think it happened when I sat the tanks in a Jobo tempering unit that I currently fill with chilled water to bring down the chemical bottles and tank temps to an even 20 degrees C. The tank rests on an insert ring on the removable tempering box lid, suspending it into the tempering unit. As you know the tank lid needs to be seated firmly downwards then the orange retaining ring pushed down to lock the clips. Either I didn't seat the lids positively first (most likely) in the change bag or the weight of the tank was enough to unlock the locking ring. Either way I lost about 72 frames I was rather looking forward to. Rats! When I stop swearing I might give another film a go. Maybe even a film from my new 111c, just to put more pressure on myself.
