Phil,

You're right. Don't know the origination of the term, but I have been  
using it to photograph Ultra Violet while keeping IR out. It is a  
clear filter to visible light with no loss. If you turn the filter in  
certain light you can see a coloration to the glass, like the coating  
on a lens.
