You can go to the Vista section of Cnet and run a Vista Capable? test on 
your existing pc's. The only upgrade I needed on my more than 3 year old 
Dell Desktop was a newer graphics card. Cnet will provide several 
recommendations (of graphics cards). For my old pc to run Vista I only 
needed a $40 graphics card.
