Hi Bill,

It was sort of built by a committee but the members all lived in different 
time slots. The base is the oldest by a considerable 
margin. My guess would be that the extra brick layers were added for privacy 
and capped with tiles for weather 
protection/decoration. Then came the garage with a gable end made from 
overlapping wood. The mortar and further capping are to get 
a weather seal between the wall and the garage..
