All:

Qaanik (pronounced Ki-Nick) is Inuit for "Owl". (In the eastern
Arctic, the Inuit language is called Inuktituk.)

Qaanik is a Snowy Owl who is the offspring of two injured Snowies
brought to the Kamloops Wildlife Park for treatment. When the egg was
hatched, the parents were not able to care for him, and he was
raised, from birth, by humans. He seems to feel that he is "people"
and is very good with small children... making him an ideal zoo owl!

Although already 3, he is just now learning to fly, for, until
recently, the Park has not had the budget to hire a suitable trainer.

So, without further ado, here's Qaanik!

And here he is, during one of his "flying lessons", landing on Rose's arm.

These are just quick and dirty scans from 4x6" drugstore prints... so
slight imperfections are to be expected.

Bearing that in mind, comments, criticisms are all appreciated.

Thanks for looking.
