The MTFs tell the story. This is describing the ideal test situation of course. Hand held, sharpness obviously is much more limited by technique and shutter speed. Contrast is also greatly affected by resistance to flare and veiling as you know, especially in difficult lighting. In my experience, for this situation it is much superior in this respect to the current Summicron wide open. <http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/gh/a/Vic/Ned_at_Gaol.jpg.html>. That is an unequal comparison, given the different situations and films as shown. However, keep in mind that the potential aberrations that need to be corrected are much higher at 1.4 compared to 2. That makes the 1.4s performance even more admirable. This lens is the one to have, in my opinion. Bokeh is a somewhat emotive consideration, on which you will have your own position.
