Nathan,
The difference between Intel and PPC G4 processors is phenomenal.
I'd suggest a test-drive at an Apple outlet if you can -- I think  
you'll be surprised.
I have the 24" iMac
4GB RAM goes a long way; I've seen no problems running anything I've  
tried.
