It had been a perishingly cold Easter holiday in Scotland this Easter, with
the shampoo freezing in the cottage bathroom. The mountains were covered
with snow. Then the sun came out and there was a perfect day for this
beautiful picture (Summicron-M ASPH 28, Leica polariser, f/4 I think) of
Arkle, a mountain in the North West Highlands. The water was very still,
just before the dog jumped in! I entered it in an on-line contest for Leica
advertising images and am pleased they used it to promote the M8. I'm
grateful for all I have learned in the LUG and from browsing the beautiful
images you post.

Another of my favourites from that holiday is one of the mountains in a
blizzard with the APO-Summicron-M 90mm ASPH. This is from a Highlands
gallery arranged by lenses for a change to show the different renditions
obtained, for those interested. The dog and I set off up a boggy hillside
with the camera and tripod - hail blowing in our faces. At the top the wind
was about Force 7 but there was a small cairn to shelter behind, set up the
tripod wide and low, compose the shot with the lens-cap on, and finally
shoot. I think it has come out like a painting.

There was no question of changing lenses in that weather. I used my other
M8 and the 28mm to take this photo of Charlie and the cairn. His tail was
blowing inside out as we walked. There are more dog photos in this gallery
for anyone interested.
