Of course they are so "crass". They are in it to make a profit,  
remember?

But also: I prefer the current setup, i.e. with specialized devices.  
As someone who has absolutely no interest in shooting video, I would  
not be willing to pay for that feature, through higher price, greater  
weight and bulk, shorter battery life or whatever other compromises  
would be necessary.

In general, I have never found any device that does everything well.  
The iPhone is inferior to the iPod as a music player. My smartphone  
has PDA functionalities, but I find my 10-year old Palm Pilot far  
superior as a PDA. And so on.
