[Leica] Warning about odd Epson 3800 behavior

Hi Brian, could you please elaborate on your work flow there? I don't
understand what you are telling us.
You've mentioned previously that you leave your 3800 on all the time. I turn
mine on for a day at a time as I tend to print in batches (not every day).
With a cycle off/on, I do lose the platen setting and paper source. Are you
telling us that your paper profiles are stored within the printer itself? I
have all of my profiles within the normal folder in Windows.
What software are you printing from? Is that software performing the colour
adjustment? (e.g., Photoshop not the printer driver).
I am still finding CS3 less intuitive to print from than CS2, although it is
supposed to be an improved procedure. That may be just less practice.

During my recent move from one house to another, my Epson 3800 printer was
unplugged and  packed in a cardboard box for about 4 months.

I had an absolute dickens of a time getting it to work properly after I
found it and plugged it in again.

After a very long troubleshooting quest, I finally found the problem, and
I'm reporting it so that others might benefit.

Somehow, either by sitting in a box for 4 months or by something that I did
wrong, all of my stored paper profiles were lost, except for their names. So
when I told the printer to use Profile #1, Crane Museo Silver Rag, it said
"fine", but the contents of that profile were the default settings.

I rebuilt all of my paper profiles and re-saved them, and it all works fine
now. If you are having print-quality issues with your 3800, look inside the
store paper profiles to make sure that they are what you think they are.
